    Default CDTi Your Thoughts

I think this is a cracking, unreliable unit myself, I say cracking cos it's got oomph and is economic and absolutely a flyer between 60-100, I also say unreliable because it seems to have nasty expensive repair bills to go with it, what are your thoughts on it

I will always argue against the CDTi being unreliable through my own experiences.

    1) February 2004 Built 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi, I covered 64,000 miles in it, and my brother now owns it and has 74000 miles on it, and it has never ever faultered. This was also a very early one.

    2) January 2006 built 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi, I covered 3500 miles in standard form, had it re-mapped by VXRPC, covered another 25,000 miles it it, and again it never faultered once.

    3) 2006 Signum 3.0 CDTi V6, OK not the 1.9, 30,000 miles covered, fuel pump failed but I put this down to a dodgy re-map. But of course this can't be proven.

    4) 2007 Astra 1.9 CDTi 150, coverd 6000 miles so far and absolutly nothing to report.

    5) My dad has a 2006 Zafira 1.9 CDTi 120 8v, he had an EGR failure at 8 miles! but since then it has covered 11000 miles and has been perfectly reliable.

Thats my own personal experiences and I think the 1.9 gets very bad press, it is a good well built reliable unit from my point of view.

    Very good point!

If I am honest, I had more trouble with the two 2.2 DTi Vectra B's I owned in the past, new engine at 50,000 miles in one and a new cylinder head at 23000 miles in the other.

i think that it looks worse because a lot of people who do have a problem do a quick google, find a forum and post there problem up, this makes it look a lot worse than it is because there are thousands of happy owners who have not joined the forum, who might if things go tits up, if you see what I am saying ??

that said there are not many of the other engines on the forum which seem to have problems, I would say this is down to the quantity of cdti`s sold though ?

Mines failed, well in the process of slowly failing anyway, but with no remap!

Good point, how many DTi engines have had their bottom pulley's fly off? How many DTi fuel pumps have failed? again, quite a few but in comparison, what % of failures to units sold what is that figure?

Probably, looking closer, the CDTi is no more unreliable.
