    Default Sooty Tailpipes....

Since I moved over to Petrol cars, I expected to lose the 'sooty' tailpipes that you get with Diesels.

However, I have to say that the VXR is just as sooty as the Diesels (and no... I'm not putting Diesel into it)...

    Is this normal ?

well now then steve your car is sucking the rubber hoses into the engine with that much power ,,so i think with all the hoses getting eaten by the 300eds,, a bit of rubber hose fired out the back is to be expected

Turbo cars "should" have sooty tailpipes otherwise you drive like an old lady. (Petrol that is)

So sooty tail pipes is perfectly normal and I would be more worried if they where not.

Which reminds me, I have to polish the tailpipes and put som wax on them

Steve, you may find that it is running a little rich, especially on full power, you will find that alot of the time mappers ensure they do run a little rich is will add a little protection to the engine.

If you run lean, on full power it leads to detonation and melting pistons. My Zafira could be like that at times, I would not worry about it.

When new, they also have wax all over them, so any crap will stick like glue, give them a good clean and polish as suggested above and you may see a marked improvement.

Yes Steve, this is a common problem.

Unlikely as it seems, it can be caused by having a small object wedged in the bootlock mechanism.

It seems to occur on debadged cars for some reason.

I'd dismantle it just in case!
