Eratic idling

Since loosing my job at the end of last year, my Vec has not really been on long runs, like it used to do daily.

Recently, when cold it has started to idle a bit strangely. Technically is sounds like diesel 'stumble' - like it's 'chugging' and about to stall, then picks up again. But I'm not a petrol expert.

No MIL though.

Any ideas ?


1.8 Petrol, 81,000 with 1000mile service warning on at key on and on key off for a few seconds !

Thought that, but done nothing about it (yet). Where exactly is it, and what does it look like ? ?

That's OK, I've searched and found....

So I removed the butterfly controller and housing today, just few pipes and 4 bolts.

Inside was black so gave it a clean with an old toothbrush and a some petrol. Now it idles fine, with no 'stumble' or 'lumpiness'.
