Question Falken Tyres - Any Good?

I need to replace my tyres soon and a mate of mine has had a very good experience buying online from 'Black Circles' they sell just about every major brand online at very competitive prices.

One brand that they seem to really 'big up' are Falken Tyres. The price is reasonable and their performance rating seems to compare well with very much more expensive makes. Also they're Japanese which is never a bad thing these days.

Having said all of this I haven't ever spoken to anyone who has bought any! Have any of you guys and girls done so, and if so what are they like? Any complaints or shall I take the plunge?

used to sell tyres when i was at my old job so from experience...

if they are the ZE512 then they are average tyres, ok in the dry, poor in the wet.
although they do have the bonus that they are a slightly harder compound than most so they last longer.

If they are offering the FK451's then that's a go'er!
Good alround tyre...better in the dry and much better in the wet than the 512.
Still last longer than average, whilst giving the performance..good allrounder.

However, if you can, go for Toyo's... either the T1-S or the newer T1-R
The best wet tyre you'll find (road legal anyway) on todays market... but don't last long at all unfortunately... due to their soft compound.
Oh, and they are awesome in the dry too
hope this helps out a little

As above, I had falkens before, like driving on glass in the wet, ok in the dry and will outlast your car *lol* i now have Toyo T1-S, like being on rails, wet or dry, but cost an arm and a leg, you get what you pay for basically,

I think the falkens are as good as you will get as a budget tyre,

The Khumo I had fitted to the Signum after a blow out last week seems pants... noticeable difference compared to the 3 NCT's on the other corners...

    Hi Guys,

This is all useful stuff, thanks.

Current prices are as follows from Black Circles...

    Based on 215 55 R16

Falken FK451 £64.25 Mail Order Only or £77.76 Fully Fitted
Falken ZE512 £79.99 Mail Order Only or £79.99 Fully Fitted
Goodyear NCT5 £81.82 Mail Order Only or £95.33 Fully Fitted
TOYO CF1 £89.65 Mail Order Only or £103.17 Fully Fitted

The FK451's are on special offer so they look like a real bargain. Actualy cheaper than the ZE512's!

Although the TOYO's are obviously good i'm looking for durability so they may not be the best bet for me.

I've had Falkens - cant remember the type, but can only agree with the comments by Bainie. In the wet they do not stick. I am not one for flying round every corner etc, but they still made me keep very steady in the wet - give only a little juice mid bend and welcome to understeer city. I thought in comparison to other tyres they border on dangerous in the wet!

However in the dry, they work almost as well as tyres twice their price and do last forever.

If you can get other tyres that work better in the wet I would recommend those above the falkens

I agree with all that's said. They're absolutely crap in the wet. I would go for a different make, personally, seeing as we do get a bit of wetness on the roads in the UK!

I put Khumo on my old MG ZT. They were rubbish, and I swapped to Continental, which were excellent.
