Default Right, that's it. I've had with my car

I have owned my 55 plate Vectra 1.9 CDTI SRI for 14 months and today was the straw that broke the camels back. And I've just spent a small fortune this week on a new exhaust so I'm even more annoyed that I can no longer live the the dire reliability of this car.

Soon after after I bought the car I had to have the gear linkage replaced and something was loose in the engine bay. Then, in the same month, a new gearbox. Then the gear linkage went again. Then the suspension had to be changed. Then a whole new coolant system had to be fitted. Then the dash had to be removed.... and it goes on until tonight when I try and move the car only to find yet again the gear linkage has gone. I've nothing where first gear should be and to get first gear I have to put it into reverse meaning I have no reverse. Its only just done 25k miles. I can't tell you how annoyed I am at the minute.

I'm getting the bus tomorrow and going to the Ford garage.

Don't go there mate, go to Honda or Toyota, avoid the Germans also, me and a few of the chaps here have bought Krautmobiles and soon wished they hadn't, I understand how you feel and yes you should want rid of the CDTi, but don't let it put you off VX for good, this engine is a stop gap due to emissions, the fact the Italians had anything to do with it's development tells you it's gonna spend more time off than on the road, next thing I suppose VX will be putting Citroen engines in to well and truly finish the marque off.

You just got a lemon. Every manufacturer makes a bad car now and again.

The new Mondeo is a nice car, shame the biggest diesel they do is the 136PS, bit of a step back from the 150PS Vectra unit.

Edit: As VV said, go try an Accord. The 2.2 diesel is an awesome unit, slick gearchange, nice handling. I'd have had one only for the driveway issue.

I now how you feel about the 1.9 CDTi reliability issues matey. Mine got too unreliable too so it had to go.

I'm currently driving a Volvo S80 as a stop gap until I find the right car.

There are a hell of a lot of 1.9 CDTi drivers out there who are extremely happy with their cars however.

Is it still under warranty? 55 plate is June 2005 so I assume it is. Was it all fixed under warranty?

Yeah it's still under warranty, so no worries there - it's just a pain to have to take it in again. Everything so far has been done under warranty.

I noticed at the start of the week that under heavy acceleration it would not go into 2nd from 1st. Then on Friday it was very hard to get into 1st. Now 1st has just gone. At least I was at home.
