    Default trouble finding reverse gear!!!!!!!!!

    hi guys
recently i have had trouble finding reverse gear , i own a 2004 1.9 cdti 120 bhp 6 speed manual,
the problem is when i lift the gaer lever up and push the gear stick accross to reverse it feels as if something is pushing the lever back towards me making the gear change really stiff ,( and its not a grinding stiff its more of pressure stiff)
the car still drives fine in all gears and the clutch still feels fine
any ideas would be great thanks

You are lifting the collar on the gear stick all the way up before you try and select reverse?

    Sorry, just checking.

Sounds like the selector linkages may need adjusted then.

It's something you can do yourself. It's a bit fiddly, but doable. I don't know how mechanically minded you are.

The first thing I would do is remove the trim around the lever so that you can get a clear view of the selector linkage and see if there's an obvious reason for the stiffness. If nothing there then look on the engine side to again see if there is anything obvious on the gearbox side of things. You'll see the selector rod clearly going into the gearbox.
