    Default Is it just me?

Or is all this diesel vs petrol thing getting really boring?

We've heard the same record this whole month and at the end of it all has anyone changed there mind about which is better and which they would prefer? I don't think so.

Pretty soon we'll have to change the name of the forum from Vectra C/Signum Owners' Club to Diesel vs Petrol Engine Owners' Club

And it's got to a stage where it's quite petty in most instances

Why we need to try and convince others of why this particular engine is better than the other is beyond me - just drive your car and enjoy it.

And now with other forums getting involved it really is time to change the record - please.

I think the Pod is where all this machoism should be directed - and what happens on the track, stays on the track.

The only reason i read those types of threads is because they amuse me somewhat.

But they have become so regular and it's just the same thing with a different spin on it.

And it'll end up causing tension, it used to be just light hearted, it's stepped up a gear now and i can only see it getting worse from here.

A forum littered with 'my car is better than your car' threads is not going to encourage new members to participate.

I was going to let it slide and not mention anything, because as you say i don't have to read the threads, but was after people's opinion on whether it is grating on them also.

I get your point. It gets like my car's better than your's sometimes and i know people do get a little upset at times over it. But i just dont read them threads or even get into the dummy out of the pram situation's.
I love my motor and if somebody gets into the argument of mine's better than your's i think it's a bit sad.
I just like to show what i've achived with the the help of quite a few different people off here and what i've thought of myself.
I'm not sure if this sort of thing will put new people off. But it is an open forum and this stuff happens.

I have to agree Harry. There certainly has been a flurry lately of 'petrol v diesel' threads, with some getting somewhat heated at times when there's simply no need.

People each have their own preference/favourite, and opinion, which is fine and great and what makes us all different - but when it's often banged on about or rammed down people's throats (an individual's opinion) it can get a bit grating as you say and, as you also said, start to cause tensions and frictions. It also doesn't look great for any new people joining the forum either - can come across as unfriendly, which certainly isn't what the forum is.

Oh, and the first sign of anyone saying petrol is better than diesel, or vice versa, in this thread will have their post swiftly deleted!

Like Shan, I simply stopped reading a number of them as they were simply getting boring. I only looked in now and again, if a Mod wasn't around, to make sure they hadn't gone nuclear! lol

OooPs. Just read Duncans post and deleted my comments on deisel even though i was only Joking..

I just read parts of them now & again Harry.

It's only the same as people's opinions, saying the 1.8 is underpowered.
Ok, it won't break speed records, but I am very very happy with it, it can break speed limits if it needed to.
It can also cruise along nicely at 'normal' motorway speeds.

It is also the best car I've ever had in 20 years of driving

I totally agree with you Harry. It's getting very tiresome and a few members seem to be wound up about it.

We've always had the petrol v diesel thing going on here but it's always been light hearted banter between friends.
