Default elephant.co.uk messed up my NCB!

Well after my accident in May 2007:

    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread...light=accident

I'm happy that the claim has finally been settled in my favour

...but now i've got a further headache, i've been told i had zero NCB's and been reinstated one! I had an old car (F**d E****t) prior to the Veccy with one years NCB which was carried over on renewal to the veccy and i'm suppose to have 2 years NCB and a refund of the difference in price (I've paid £1k with 0 NCB)!

They reckon it's not on their system but luckily i always keep an archive of my insurance documents and BINGO i've found the renewal notice from the E****t with the 1 years NCB!

Now to put some common sense into elephant.co.uk customer services (watch out)

    Rock on

More Than screwed up my NCB. I had 11 years and they dropped it down to 5 as that's the max their online system has. I failed in getting them to change it. So I've lost 6 years. Joy.

I hope you have better luck.

I'm NOT going back to them again, i'd stick with Vauxhall's own insurance (They were £2.50 more) LOL!

Atleast god forbid if i have another crash it'll go to a V'hall Bodyshop than their "Approved" repairer who resprayed the bumper 5 times to get the shade and finish right...Orange peel...not enough metallic flakes!

Just to let you know that very few insurance companies give you any additional discount if you have a 10, 11, 15, 20 or 25 year NCB as opposed to a 5 (or possibly 6 and in some extreme cases 7) years NCB. Unless you have some form of Protected No Claims Bonus, an accident that is classed as a 'fault' accident, either temporarily or permanently, will result in your NCB normally being stepped back by 2 years (although it can vary slightly between insurers).

However, if your last renewal notice showed you as having 10 years NCB, this would not result in your next renewal showing 8 years. If the company you are insured with only give a maximum discount for 5 years NCB then your NCB will be stepped back to 3 years at renewal date (if the step back with them is 2 years).

In essence then, it doesnt really matter how many years NCB your renewal notice shows, as you will only ever get the maximum discount that that particular compeny gives you.

Even if a company did give you an additional discount for a higher number of years NCB, you would probably find that they are not the most competitive company for you anyhow (it would be used as an advertising gimmick to attract drivers to them), and a company that only gives a 5 year NCB discount would probably beat them on price.
