Default Oil Change / Torque values for 3.2 engine

    Folks,

Since I'm not a fan of the extended oil change intervals currently in vogue, I plan changing the oil in my 3.2 in the near future. Does anyone know what the tightening torque values are for the oil filter and oil drain plug on the 3.2 V6?

Those values on the Omega 3.0 engine were 15Nm and 10Nm respectively, so I'm assuming the 3.2 will be the same. Can anyone advise?

    Hi D18,

I'm no fan of extended oil change intervals either so when I last changed mine i just followed the rule of thumb ' it's only alloy so not too tight'. To be fair, access is so poor on the filter canister that a torque wrench is just too big to get it ( or my snap-on one is anyway). On both fixings you are only trying to crush 'o' rings so a moderate hand pressure should suffice.. No scaffold bars required here...Don't forget to change the 'o' ring on the sump plug or the g#t will weep..stained driveway..nice..
If the car has yet to see a dealer, beware the oil filter housing could well be very tight.. Don't be tempted to do it up as hard again.

    Hope this helps..

    Mark,

Thanks for the response - my last 2.6 had the TORX type bolts which, as you say, are not really much more than finger tight. The car had its last (Vx main dealer) oil change in June when it was 1 year old, so hopefully the filter shouldn't be too difficult to remove. At least there is a bit more room under the bonnet than the Vectra 'B'.

    no offence taken m8.

    Honestly, I haven't swallowed a Vauxhall encyclopedia!!

That info came from TIS. The 'clever' bit is finding the bit of information that you're after from it!!
