    Default 120 to 150?

hopefully a swift and easy answer to this ne if anyonw could oblige..

i'm picking up a cdti 120 sri est up on monday, for which i'm trading in my cdti sri 150 hatch. i'd have liked another 150 but i just couldn't find one in reasonable striking distance (and without having my shirt removed from my back!).

i was thinking one of the first things i'd look at would be a remap to give it the same power (ish) of my 150. for the cash it seems worth it for the extra go.

would this be a reasonable assumption?

get a caterman box, easy 150 for £80. Just done a mate from works Astra - very quick now its got the T--Tuning box on. About 15 minutes to fit on a 120, common rail is hard to reach.

i've been having a wander round the forum and opinion seems to be split on the remap / tuning box choice.

i do a lot of miles and rely on my motor heavily (as we all do i guess) so i'm after something that won't impact on reliability...hmmm..

BSR do a remap for the 120.. I wouldnt have a tuning box on my cars when there are Remap such as the BSR which can be installed in around 3mins without lifting the bonnet...
Its down to personal choice, also the BSr is a lot more expensive than a box but the remap is safer..

    Power figures
    original Stage 1
    power: 122Hp 150Hp
    torque: 284Nm 331Nm
    Average power increase: 26Hp 22.1%
    Measured by BSR.
    http://en.bsr.se/products/t1198/

I know i sound like a BSR rep but the BSR PPC's is quality, it takes less than 2 minutes to remap your car once you have downloaded the tuned file..

Seeing as you asked about a remap originally and all you've had so far is people saying to get a box!

Brocks has had a remap on his 120 (I'm sure it was the VXRPC one) and seems very happy with it. There is also the BSR one for that engine - http://en.bsr.se/products/t1198/ - which will give you 150bhp and a healthy extra dose of torque. Look at the graph and you'll see what I mean - the torque is increased but also sustained over more of the rev range, that's where you'll really feel the difference of a remap over a box. The VXRPC remap will give a similar result.

Remaps work in harmony with the engine as they change a whole lot of different variables, unlike boxes which just fool the car into throwing more fuel in, so not as sympathetic to the engine and they simply can't make the changes that a remap can.

So, that's a couple of options for remaps for that engine, seeing as you asked about remaps due to your uncertainty about boxes.

EDIT: Pete just beat me to it with the exact same thing! lol

I am the same, the car is a tool for work aswell as a hobby, i do around 30,000 miles a year and went for the BSR unit after big-pete recommended it.

I need good reliability and want more power, i have also seen the car increase the mpg from 37 to 44 since it was fitted. so if you do lots of milage you will claw the money back this way.
