    Default Oil Light

My oil light has just come on half way to work, how do i check it? i.e. warm or cold, and what oil will i need, it was serviced by the main dealer a while back so im assuming they used the long life oil, i just need to top it up for now as the next service is due in June/July

    3.0 DTi Signum

I pass a Halfords on the way home so i can get there no problem, but i dont trust there judgement

    cheers in advance guys

Check oil level cold and on flat ground.

The light coming on during engine running COULD be bad news. If you lose oil pressure whilst driving, the engine internals may be short on oil, and expensive damage could occur.

Not trying to shock you, but CHECK IT ASAP, and refill if necessary. Halfords will have a reference for the oil type and certs.

Oil light coming on is that serious, I'd check it and, if it is low, WALK to Halford's fetch some more.....

If it's not low, then you may have oil pump problems or an internal leak from the main gallery (rifle) or feeds.

    good news

    phoned 2 main dealers

both have said, as long as its just the orange oil display on screen with NO spanners then its just to let me know to check the oil

first dealer said 10 40 oil

second dealer said 3w30, these guys did the servicing from day one so im inclined to go with these

they also said they can do my cambelt fro £327 all in

If it's just the orange light at the top right of the dash it just means it's low and needs a top up. Mine came on the way to paris last year and it needed just under half a litre. It scared the s**t out of me as it aint what you want half way hrough paris.
