Default Dopey newbie question about towbars

Hello to all! I am new here. I need a towbar for my 1.8 facelift. I was told that it is a good idea to get the proper VX wiring harness, is that true? I was also told that VX say it needs tec2ing, but most of the time it dosent, is this true?. I am after a 2nd hand one off ebay, how do I know if all the bolts and bits and bobs are there? sorry for the stupid question Willie

Getting the VX wiring kit will make it easy, but expensive. Not sure about Tec 2 requirements on facelift.

It is possible to wire up a standard towbar, without tec 2 and without causing bulb failure warning lights to be triggered.

If you do a search you will find it, posted by me. It's not too quick to do, but youwill save a shed load of wedge.

Having all the bolts will be obvious, fitting is easy (ish)

Ask the seller if everything there

The 12n Kit From Vx Is Only About £40
It Is Plug And Play No Need For Tech 2
And Your Bulb Failer Will Work For The Trailer Too

Thank you sir, I think its worth the £40. Doing what Ste did is a bit too much for me! More power to him tho!

Mine would have needed Tec 2, which pushes the price up by about £50 from my local robbing stealers. The bar only cost £25 IIRC off ebay with twin 'trics included.

Couldn't be bothered being ripped off by vx for it, so . . . ..

I've just fitted, with GSi3.2's help, my removable Vx towbar with 12N and 12S electrics. The Vx electrics make it a much easier job, hassle free. I was expecting it to needed Tech 2'd (and Mark was standing by with the laptop) but it didn't need it. The trailer module worked after being plugged in - no Tech 2 necessary.

So, £150 for the whole removable towbar including electrics and module from Matt (Maverick), no cost to fit as I did it myself with Mark, and no Tech 2 charge as it didn't need it, and wouldn't have cost anyway if it had (well I do owe Mark a few beers for helping me! lol) - so a bargain really considering brand new the towbar with electrics is £450!!

Yep, but that's not, I don't think, a removable one so they are cheaper, and mine had the full Vx electrics including the trailer module (box of electronics that plugs into the rear electrical centre) - I don't think Ste's did. I thought he wired in normal (non-Vx) electrics using his method?

Mine didn't need a Tech 2, so maybe his wouldn't have either if he had got the Vx electrics.
