Default GM 10-40 semi synth Engine oil any good?

Gonna do an oil change on my 1.9CDTi (150) this week and would like to know what oil to use and which brands do people advise? Is GM's own oil any good?

Depends how long you intend keeping it in there. 5k would be about the limit of that oil in a 180 horse 1.9.

Spend a few extra quid and get a proper fully synthetic.

I've always used the GM 5W30 fully synthetic in my cdti's.

    Default Whats wrong with 10/40

I always used 10/40 fully synth on my last car I had for 10 years, and never had any probs (1.8 cavalier), always changed it before it went to ****3, never any probs? everyone seems to recommend 5/30 now, so what is wrong with 10/40 on a petrol 1.8, I`m sure its what vx use anyway?

    He's asking about a 180hp 1.9CDTi. Not a 1980's 1.8 petrol.

    1.9CDTi should be long-life 5W30.

Aye, for my 1.8 the dealer uses 10/40 shell stuff which is ok if changed regularly but not recommended for the CDTI's.
