Are the markings on these cams normal, I can see the next one along and it is the same. Any idea what this is? thanks for any help

Is that a 1.8? Mine is, its a bit dark to go and have a llook now LOL

Are they rough, or just oil marks?

Thanks Ste, you can feel them slightly with your finger nail, have a look at yours if you can

Just for you, I've been out in the rain and put my finger in the top of my engine. the curtain twitcher's must think I'm mad !


I can see exactly the same marks on mine, with (looking through the oil filler cap from the front of the engine) the right hand cam lobe showing more pronounced marks than the left visible cam lobe.

But, after over 80K, I would expect some cam wear.

I wouldn't have thought it is of any great worry.
Keep up the regular maintenance, wrt oil changes.

Unless (and until) your car has top end rattles etc, I don't think you need to be concerned.
