Default Insuring a second car ?

I'm about to buy a second car, something like a small 8 year old MR2 roadster just for shopping and I just heared from my insurance company that No Claims Bonus must be earned separately for each car that you insure! I was always thinking my NCD is assigned to me ! I've earned it, not my * car, so I'll be paying £500 for my Signum 3.2 and £500 for 1.8 MR2 ! If so, that is just * ridiculous I'm so furious

I just posted up a thread on this this week.

Bought a 2nd car for my wife & insured it in her name with no NCD fully comp for £133. It was through Swinton. I think the policy is Provident. they do a special 2nd car policy. Did it all online.

Strange that. when I insured my wife to drive her car[ my old one when I bought this one] they gave her a "mirror discount" that was equall to my full NCB she had no discount of her own as she had not been driving long, but her name was on my policy.

Can you not put them on the same policy Babs, as you can only drive one at a time, worth an ask.

it is correct. My insurance company wanted to do the same when I bought the Vectra (two cars, sir? Sorry, zero NCD on the second one sir. Vectra is it? That'll be £750 quid)

You will find different Insurers have different rules on this. Simply, if your Insurers don't allow you to have a discount on your new policy/vehicle to 'mirror' your existing policy, then shop around - other Insurers will, and they wont need you to have both cars insured with them either.

When i had my old Vectra B, i looked into buying another car as a toy(One of those Pete is banned from saying the name of!!)

I called a company called Green Light Insurance, they quoted me £900 for my Vectra B, and a G plate Sapphire Cosworth. Although officially they cannot use your No Claims on both car's, they give you "generous allowance" that all but covers the NCB discount you would have got for your 2nd car.
