Question 1.9 CDTI 16v OIL CHANGE

    Hi guys

Its now been 6 months since a service on my 54 plate Signum 1.9 cdti 16v from a main dealer. They used the fully synthetic 5w30 oil.
Question is should i do an interval oil and filter change, or is this long life oil good for a year...( based on my current mileage i will do approx 12,000 miles in a year).
If i do go for an oil change is it relatively simple on this engine, and where is the oil filter..? on my old 2.0 dti it was a cartridge in the front.....!

    Cheers
    Dave.

the oil is good for a year or 12,000..no sweat..

the filter is cunningly hidden.. down the back of the engine in an almost un accessable point..the best way to change it is to raise the car high enough to fold down the flap in the undertray ( or remove the undertray altogether ) and look up in line with the exhaust..you will see an alloy casting hanging out into space with a cast alloy tube coming off it..there is a plastic cap on it just like the DTi that holds the filter..as you undo the cap oil will come out of the cast tube, so put some pipe etc on it to divert the oil as otherwise it will fall on said exhaust pipe and stink when it burns off...remove cap and filter, swap filter and o rings and then replace...

it's bad access compared to other engines but not impossible..

If it's the 1.9 150 engine the filter housing is right at the back of the engine at the bottom of the block. It's hard to see from the top. When i changed the filter on mine i only had axle stands and when you lower the flap on the belly plate for access you'll be restricted and will probably find it easier to remove the belly plate completely ( this'll add about 10 mins to your time). You'll also need a 32 or 34mm (can't remember which 1 it was )socket to remove filter housing.

    Beat me to it Gsi

Cheers guys, i know that oil quality has vastly improved over the years, and being fully synthetic i'll most likely leave it till the service in the summer, thanks for the replies, most helpful...!
