    Default DPF cycle !

    I know the DPF has recieved many threads on this site,
    but now i have one fitted to my Vec, i have some odd
    questions ! when it cleans itself : does the engine run
    slightly rough untill it has finished, and does the throttle
    become very sensitive and twitchy ?

    It does act a little bit oddly, usually a little rough sounding and increased fuel consumption. Also, if it's like mine, you may notice a kind of burning plastic smell.

    How often does DPFs auto regens on Yours cars?
    Especialy I'm interested of Z30DT? Urban/ extra urban cycle!

    mine regens every 6-800 miles , did a regen this morning - instant mpg shows 0.8 instead of 0.1 , tickover seems rougher .

    Do You have 3.0 or 1.9 engie? Mine 3.0 does it aproxematly once in 300-400 miles, but its in 90% urban conditions+ we had wery cold winter in Latvia, and engine needed to long time to warm up?

    could this be the reason why my accelerator felt really sensitive when driving the other morning? and my mpg was right down?

    During Regen cycle MPG is realy big, so its can be moment when filter is cleaning! If You have 3.0 diesel at cleaning moment engine works wery "nerwously", I drived with lots of 1.9, thre an see only by momental consumption+ feel burning smell

    On 1.9 CDTI, there are a number of things that happen during dpf regeneration that give abnormal running;
    1. Throttle pedal map is more sensitive (similar to 'sports mode').
    2. VNT duty cycle is increased so you get higher boost pressure and a strange 'surge' effect as you lift off the throttle pedal.
    3. Main injection timing is retarded by 15-30 degrees resulting in uneven running and perhaps occasional misfire.

    Then of course there's the post-injection event which raises the fuel consumption and causes the pre-cat to get very hot.
