Default Question for the resident police officers

I was travelling along the M61 towards manchester yesterday, just past Botonay Bay when I saw a police van parked up in one of the lay-by's. This van had 2 flaps open on the back doors with what I can only assume were for camara's. About a mile or so down the road there was a police car parked up.

My question is would this van be checking for speeding drivers or something else. i.e. no tax disc's etc.

The car parked up a mile or so down the road is/was obviously to catch the uninsured or taxed, but that doesn't mean that the van wasn't clocking the speed of vehicles though.

    Should you be worried?

Ok, You weren't speeding, but you wasn't displaying your Tax disc
Wait for a better answer, but they use cameras for NPR (I think) checks car and driver details I believe.

Our traffic sectioon have a white van with the already mentioned opening flaps on the back.

The presence of the car (was it a performance one??) suggests that the van is not recording speeders, but passing on pictures and speeds to the pursuit car for it to deal with.

Or, the other reason may indeed be ANPR. Forces all have enforcement days, where bosses throw bobbies out onto the streets to increase 'P.I's' (performance indicators). As in many jobs, these change from month to month, and on that day, it may have been untaxed/unlicenced/uninsured drivers.

Car's taxed and insured so I've nothing to worry about there, my have problem if they were checking your speed, I was doing around 80mph when I saw the van as were most other drivers at the time.

I wouldn't be overly worried matey. An indicated 80mph on your speedo means you were probably doing about 75-77mph. I believe that puts you in the 10% safety margin.

The police car does suggest that they were looking for the uninsured, untaxed or unMOT'd though.

It was a performace car, as I said earlier I was going faster than 70mph if they were checking for speeding drivers in your opinon would 80mph warrent being pulled over or should I expect something in the post?
