Default What activates front parking sensors?

As the title says really. Surely its not first gear as every time your in a traffic jam they would beep? Reason I ask is I live in a terrace house and parking is a nightmare at the best of times, but next door has just bought a second car so parking is very tight and as I'm a short arse and like the seat nice and low, finding the front of the car is not to easy. I'm looking at an aftermarket kit so dont know if they trigger the same as factory item.

You engage reverse gear, it activates front as well. If you need front on just select reverse first, not something you do in traffic very often so a good solution.

Not quite, the bottom left hand blanking plate by the stereo is for the front parking sensor switch.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Yep, front and back sensors work when reverse is engaged and also when you push the dash button.

    Aftermarket kits work like this.
Reverse as you'd expect when you select reverse gear. Front's will normally be activated by the brake pedal. They will wake up but if nothing is there to sense nothing will be indicated (visually or audibly). They will usually remain awake for 10 seconds. Or you can get a box to activate them when speed drops to below a set speed (5mph)
Some kits will interlink he rears to the fronts. My 8 sensor kit when reverse engaged will light up the rear display and wake up the fronts for parrellel parking. As you swang the front in the outside sensor on the front would then pick up the object you were swinging in behind say a parked car.
Or to be precise in the case of my sensors a fault was found when linked up like this & I was advised to wire front sensors up to an ignition live so they remained awake all the time. They worked perfectly like this.

Will that be the same as an aftermarket kit? I cant see them having to be connected to the speed pulse?

EDIT Just seen your post ben, just what I was after cheers.
