    Default Polish Again

Sorry to ask the question again but I see various threads regarding polishing of cars. I have a Star Silver Vectra and would like to know what the majority of you all think is the best brand and type of polish for my colour as there are confusing amounts of info out there

Meguires NXT is good, better on darker colours as it seems to increase depth. But not so noticable on the Star Silver, I found on our star silver astra Zymol was quite impressive.

I had a silver veccy and unfortunatly is quite possibly the hardest colour to get a deep wet shine on. I tried a dozen different polish/wax combinations and settled on Souveran pinnacle wax, but it costs £40 a tub so only use it for shows. Wolfgang deep gloss sealent is meant to be good on silver, but i only bought some after i'd sold it and got a dark green car. Another wax i was told to try was `1z Glanz wax and did get good results but nothing more than anything else i had tried.

The important thing to remember when going for a deep wet shine is that the final stage product accounts for only 5% of the result. The main work is in the preperation. Use a clay bar, use a paint cleaner to clear away contaminents, use a swirl removing polish to get rid of swirls or holograms and spiderwebs (or use a glaze to hide them!). Without all that, its Kinda like painting over a rough plastered wall.

Andy, what would you say was a good swirl removing polish?

I have a fair few on mine and could do with someone 'in the know' to recommend a decent one as they are really starting to get me down.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Well im still learning mate so im no expert. It depends what colour your car is as dark colours can leave a slight dulling behind which needs a further 'less harsh' polish applied afterwards.

Its worth pointing out that i'll be using a machine polisher.

I'll be using megiaurs pro range, #83 followed by #80. #83 will take my swirls out, #80 will give it the final touch and remove any marring that the #83 leaves. A silver or light coloured car will probably get away with just #83. Again this is machine polished. It can be done by hand but takes much more effort and time.

Alternativly, look at poorboys SSR range from clean and shiny.

I'd recomend registering with www.detailingworld.co.uk and asking about hand removal of swirls. Im 100% sure someone will give a proper answer
