Default GSi 3.2 timing belt change?

At "up to" what mileage or how many years should you change the cambelt on these V6 petrol engines?

Local VX stealer has just told me 80k or 5 years. My motor's on an 02 plate with 57k on the clock, allegedly FSH by previous owners.

Are there any other belts or ancillaries that need doing at the same time?

I personally wouldn't go past the 4 years and 40,000 mark....also worth bunging in a new water pump cause there're not that dear and why not do the alternator belt as well.......small outlay for piece of mind (or a new engine)

    right..the OFFICIAL book times are 80K or 5 yrs...BUT..

Having seen the results of cambelt failures too many times i strongly reccomend that this figure is halved to 40,000..a cambelt change is far cheaper than the cost of a recon V6...

If i was you, i'd get the belt and roller kit on it as soon as you can afford to..the only other 'failure point' is the water pump..they do have a habit of leaking from the gland seals, so as it's the same amount of stripping as a belt, i do them at the same time, they're only another £25 so it makes sense..while the serpentine drive belt is off, just inspect it, and if in doubt replace it, but it should be fine..

    If in doubt, play safe....

"Serpentine belt" - AKA the belt that goes round alternator, power steering pump etc.? Squeaks a bit at the moment anyway when cold so would change that as well.

"Average" price for a V6 cambelt/roller/water pump change, either VX stealer or otherwise?

right, the kit for the belt and rollers is around £120 dependant on discounts..the pump as above is around £25...add some antifreeze and then it's just down to the labour..allow for 2 hours, but it does take less...

if you can hang on, there's going to be a few workshop meets in FEB and March where i'll change it for nothing..

Mark - any sign of these workshop meets as I'm now starting to worry about leaving the cambelt change much longer. Have sent you a few PMs on the subject but haven't heard anything back. Could you let me know by PM?

i'll tell the world..Mrs Gsi isn't very well at the moment ,so all i'm doing is looking after her at the moment and not playing with members cars...so any workshop meets are put on longterm hold...
