    Default Insp

Quick question:- When I press the odometer reset stork with the keys out of the ignition, it says "INSP 13000". Dose that mean that the next service is due in 13000 miles? thanks for any info..

Hi, yep Insp is the service interval.. should be every year or 20k miles whichever comes first....
Check though, on my car they didnt reset the clock so it told me I needed a service early!

If you need to reset the clock then let me know and I'll tell you how to do it its really simple,

    hope that helps

Thanks pjames.79. I have heard that the service interval depends on how the car is driven (in my case very carefully). So if I start to drive the car harder (which Im not going to), would the service need carrying out sooner? thanks

Hi Dave, yep it does depend on how you drive aswell... same as with tyres I suppose, the harder you go the more frequent you're service but I doubt it would reduce it by much..

My girlfriend has a corsa with a 20k interval, she only does 10k a year so gets it done every march - they didnt reset her clock last time so shes been going nuts about resetting (Ive done it now!)

Ive managed a good 20k on all intervals so far and dont drive too crazy... only 17k last time but was fun doing it! - Paul

erm.... ok you got me on that! I dont really know to tell you the truth! but yeah I assume its something to do with that - would monitor oil levels and all that stuff... dont know if anyone else reading this would know (?) would be interested to learn myself! seems pretty accurate though. I have used an independent guy before for an interim service at 10k he charged 80 quid for an oil change... not a lot else... think the engine and parts are designed to last so sticking to 20k. (Maybe if I ever get my remap might think about doing it more often though.....)

    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Trim : Black

    Engine : 3.0D V6

    Year : 0000

    Default

Long life oil and filter for 1.8 petrol is about £30 over VX counter.

The oil life is a calculation by a 'virtual sensor' within the engine management system. It counts cold starts, driving duty cycle etc etc and estimates the life of the oil. ONLY use long life oil if you intend to go to the max interval.
I used to do a lot of motorway driving (about 600 miles a week) and always go to the max interval as motorways are very stress free on engines. - - They have warmed up, and don't run at excessive rpm or huge load factors.

    Thanks Ste!
So when you say "driving duty cycle" what is ment by that? dose that mean that driving the car hard will have no efect on the service interal?

Honestly, i'm sure on the 1.8 Vec it's just a timer which will flashup "insp" at a year or 20k miles since it was last reset - which ever comes first. I don't think it's any more inteligent than that.
