Is there any real advantage of using the Premium Diesels in my CDTi (150) 55 plate vectra, like BP ultimate?

Some say no, but I use the V-power petrol and it makes a difference and the v-power diesel does give better Mpg.

There was an independant study into these 'better' fuels and it found they was no difference in MPG or performance in a standard road car to standard fuels.

Even if mpg rose by a few miles per tank, would it off set the extra 6-8p per litre in cost? Short answer is NO.

MPG isn't the whole story, MPP (Miles Per Pound) is a better indication.

I stick with Asda fuel and it is perfectly OK.

You can see why though the fuel companys promote them. extra money for them. Maybe it costs them 2p per litre extra to get into your tank (all costs incurred), they charge an extra 6-8p per litre and pay the same duty. Who's laughing now? The fuel company is making an EXTRA 4p+ profit on every litre sold over 'standard' fuel.

It all come down to profit for the fuel company and marketing to convince you you need it. Loads of tosh IMO.

not at the current prices there isn't! regardless of performance increase.....which would be minimal if at all (and probably just psychological)

^^^^ I agree. The placebo effect would kick.

"The car goes better, because I have been conditioned to think it will, so it will"

Proper tests have proved otherwise though.

im useing the shell v power diesel

it does seam to do whats on thin tin

i do get a littel more mpg on the v power diesel but it not cheap im paying 113p
running around town you dont seam gain anything but on the motorway you do getting upto 60+mpg on a 200 miles round trip to mr spoons.
steve also has said the same with the bp diesel

i would think you need to try the fuels out in your car i didnt get anymore from the bp diesel but i did from the shell.

the v power diesel cost's me less than 3% more but im getting more 3% back by using it so i pay the extra for the fuel but get it back with the mpg

I've tried V power diesel. No difference at all, apart from the cost. Complete waste of money IMO.
