Default ill fitted dipstick and oil all over engine

    Hi,

Is it possible for the engine to get covered in oil if the dipstick isn't put back in properly??

(the mrs car was in the dealer earlier and they reckon this is what had happened)

Is this likely to be right or is it more likely to be a seal somewhere? Network q runs out in 2 days

I did on the other hand manage to get a new clutch authorised on the back of some early morning judder!! (astra g)

sorry just to add to this - if it is something more sinister and the dealer has missed it, as i have proof they looked at it before end of warranty will i still be covered after the warranty ends (network q warranty - 4 year old car)

If you have proof they looked at it before the warranty expired then yes you are still covered - just keep on their backs though - will make sure they 'don't forget'!!

I had this problem mate. Took vx two goes to find the problem, Turned out to be a cracked head (on a petrol though). Filled me up with oil and I had to drive 1000miles to see if I was actually loosing oil. Once they found it was it then went in to be fully cleaned so they could then see the where the fresh oil was coming from.

Don't know about your head but my ally head is cast in something that looks like polystyrene and is weaker than the sand cast saab unit. Mine cracked just above the zorst manifold, it then ran onto the gearbox and poled in the castings.

Get it Gunked mate, they originally thought it was the head gasket, replaced that but no joy. Get it cleaned up, top it up with oil and take it for a good run. Fresh oil will show up easier that way.
