    Default rear brake binding

back brake passenger side has just started to bind on, noticed the smell last night then again tonight and the wheel was warm to touch
any ideas what has gone wrong? and more to the point.... whats the cure?

i'll have a look on wed when i'm off work but it would be nice to have some ideas before i go poking about

does anyone have any diagrams of the rear brake setup?

could be sticking pads on the caliper carriers..or a sticky piston..if you haven't got a rewind tool for the vectra-c, then nows the time to get one..

strip the brakes down, wind the calipers back in, and clean the pad rests before reassembling it with a smear of copper grease where the pads touch the caliper and the carrier..

not very common..just thought as well..check the pins are clean and free when you take then out to get the calipers off..and smear them lighty in grease when you put them back in..

Also worth a check to see if the protective boot is split.
I think that was the main reason mine siezed up, letting water & crap in.

This is a design flaw, from cost-cutting
Rather than have separate brake pads and brake shoes it is now an all-in-one
Binding brakes a common fault as a result
I had this in my previous Mondeo and it resulted in two replacement handbrake cables, followed by two sets of rear pads and discs

    just a quick update
the caliper didnt have any of the boot left, just the ring left on the caliper, the disc must have been so hot its cracked both the brake pads........
so i've ordered an exchange caliper (better be safe and sure its not going to stick straight away again) and since its in bits may aswell pop some new discs on at the same time as the pads
any tips to watch out for while putting it all back together?

Just make sure that you slide the spring clip on the back of the pads so that it sits in the groove in the piston. Pump out the brake pedal so that the pads are against the discs before applying the handbrake, so that the auto adjuster inside the caliper works properly.
