    Default 1.9 cdti 150 engine prob !!! HELP !!! :)

    Hi Guys

I have a late 2005 1.9 (150) CDTI Signum. Had trouble a couple of months ago with the swirl valve. Got it replaced no probs. Lately I have had some instances where the Car will only rev up very very slowly (like 40 seconds to get from 1000 to 2000 revs with the clutch open). Took the car back to VX and they told me that it was the car performing a self-cleaning cycle on some filter?? Not sure if this sounds right? Anyway, to cut a long story short I felt a little like I was being fobbed off, but lived with it anyway. This morning I had the issue again only it was much worse and would not rev past 1500 at all. In fact once it reached around 1500 it started to drop off again all the way down to around 800. Then the car would feel really lumpy and strange. After trying to start the car for around 10 mins I finally got the revs up to 2500, and from there the needle flew over to 4000+ and the car seemed to run ok. This is the second time this has happened and I took the car in to VX straight away.

I am interested to know if anyone else has had this or if anyone knows what it may be???? I don't want to get fobbed off again by VX so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dave

Sounds like they thought the DPF - diesel particulate filter, have a search on here for more info - would cause this. Mine doesn't have one, but I'm pretty sure it won't make that big a dent in the performance. Check the instant consumption when it does it again. If its a huge amount, then indeed it may be the DPF.

Edit: I also agree with VV, sounds like you have been fobbed off a little there.

That could be an airleak or something on the drive by wire module playing up, wouldn't say it's the DPF and I'm sure you have been fobbed off.

Thanks BigSig... Particle filter that was it!! They seemed to just be saying live with it before??? I think this is a little odd as when this happens the car looses all power. So far this has happened leaving a multi storey car park (through one of those gate things) and also on entering a roundabout. It strikes me that this is really inconvienient, and potentially quite dangerous. Do you know if this is a common occourance on 1.9cdti cars?

Thanks also Vaux, I will try to get some more detailed information out of them today.

    confused

    Right –

Just got off of the phone to VX… Guy there has told me that the car has not malfunctioned this afternoon, and there is no record of the fault in Tech2 (I am not surprised as no warning light came on while this happened). His only suggestion was for me to take the car back!!!!
Surely this can’t be right… This could happen on a motorway or anywhere!?!? They can’t do any work unless they can diagnose the fault, but if it is only intermittent and Tech2 doesn’t store it how can I ever get it fixed?

Very true, I'm at a loss as to what to suggest..... I totally agree, its potentially dangerous

Ask them to take responsibility if it happens again and causes an accident, I know they won't but it could be fatal. I would want VX technical involved due to the potential risk.

Dave, keep yer mobile phone handy, when it does it again film it, do the clocks 1st and quickly move to the pedals to show it's hard down, at least then they can't charge you if they cannot find the fault.

    Hi there.
I have a Vectra 2006 1,9CDTI 150 HK and the only thing I notice when the DPF is cleaning, is that the idle is a bit rough and a small vibration can be felt in the car at very low rev's. Power is pretty normal, perhaps a bit down. Takes only approx 5-10 minutes, then all is back to normal.

My ECU is updated with some sort of ServiceBulletin-update for approx 1 year ago that was related to the DPF.

Thank you all very much - all good stuff!
VX have agreed to keep the car till tomorrow to see if they can see the problem in the morning when the engine is cold and damp... Not sure if they will notice anything though as this is an intermittent fault... Still fingers crossed.

Think I will keep a camera in the car now to try to catch the issue when it returns.

Still can't belive that they can just pass a 2 year old car back with a fault like this without even trying to fix it.

    ... Will keep you posted!
