    Default Economy of 2002 2.2 petrol

    Hi Guys, What kind of economy do you get from the 2002 2.2 petrol engine. Parkers states 34mpg ???

    a bit optimistic..but acheivable if you have a light foot...used to get around 29-30mpg

    Hi mate, I'm sure a lot of the guys with the older 2.2 engine say its not that good on fuel consumption. Less than 30mpg on the whole. The newer 2.2 Direct is much better on fuel and performance so if you can afford a Direct, go for that (from 04 plate onwards).

    Well i was actually after the 2.2 Diesel, just wondered about the petrols economy as they are so much cheaper

    Ive got the 2.2 petrol aint that great under 30mpg on average,regretting not getting a diesel now!!

    2.2 DTi will return around 40 urban if you're not stop starting all day, on a run it'll do 45-50mpg, it's a good engine if it's maintained and you don't thrash the nuts off it, only really has a couple of bad points, the crankshaft pulley can snap as can the timing chain, inj seal's are known to leak causing bad starting and the turbo hose can blow off, the most common one is the seals, the other's seem to happen if you are unlucky. hth.

    Don't be put off, a good one is a really good one.

    VV, i have never heard of a chain snapping on a Dti, only on petrols, is this right?

    Yup, oil feeds block up.

    Should be ok if you change the oil every 10k though shouldn't it?

    Did 122k in a 2.2 03 plate, never got more than 34mpg from a tank (motorway miles) round town 27-30
