    Default Heater blower help required

Hi guys im having a few probs at the moment, it started a few weeks ago when my windows started to steam up when the car was stood overnight then when using the blower the fan motor would start to squeek a little and then sometimes would only work intermittantly or very slowly pulsing now its packed in all together.
just wondered if it was an easy job to replace ive took the glove box out and threw away my pollen filter as it was well dirty and unblocked the drain hole , (getting a new one tomorrow).
so was wondering before i start unbolting things would i be able to get it out my self or will a lot more dashboard have to come out

ive searched the other forums and conclude that if it stops working on 1-3 than its the resister pack but if its stops working on 1-4 its the resister pack and the blower

    cheers ian

sounds like it's suffered from the water ingress problem..which will have caused the bottom bearing to begin to sieze..hence why it was running slower and slower..can you turn the fan through the hole where the pollen filter sits..does it turn freely or is it slightly stiff..

you may find that replacing the motor will solve your problems.. or it could have blown the feed fuse..probe the fan lead to see if it's still receiving power as well..

access to the fan housing is behind the glovebox..so no major dash strip..

it should be.... it may just be the resistor or fuse gone.. you can check the fan by giving it a 12v powersource...

Hi again thanks for the help
ive removed the glovebox and exposed the motor when the car is cold and i turn the fan on it works very slowly then stops?. i pulled the resistor and it has some rusty marks on it so ive ordered another from Vx. i suspect your right about the bearings on the fan motor havent had time to remove it yet, do you know if its the same as a vectra b model i (know the resister is different) as vx tried to palm me off with one lol. Oh and my footwell was soaking, didnt notice before as i have 2 lots of car matts down (the second set to keep my first set clean lol)

    cheers ian

if the footwell is soaking, have a look at the two drains in the scuttle by the pollen filter and the wiper motor, they are more than likely blocked, dumping water in through the fan and ontop the floor....

Any joy with the fan motor? Did you need a new one? Oh and how many pounds are they if you did. Mines got the same problem sounds like I've got a budgie behind the dash.

    hello m8
yes got it sorted i got one from a breaker on ebay cost 50 notes delivered.

bit of a pain to change trying to locate the torx screw out of sight behind the blower cowl but but not that bad a job. best thing to do now is while its still working is reremove it and soak in wd40, (unfortunatley for me as i was doing that i dropped it and ot smashed lol).

    godd luck with it m8

    cheers ian

Have had the problem of blocked drain, but can only find one (under the bonnet by the pollen filter) where is the other one?
Have also fitted two new resistor packs both 'blew' after a couple of days.
Been advised that the motor is drawing to much current, is this plausible and is it easy to change?
