Default Steinbauer Tuning boxes for DTi's.

Has anyone ever come across these Steinbauer P Box's for the DTi's?

Courtenay used to do them, but seem to have stopped now. They seem quite popular in Germany and i am sure i read somewhere recently they dont cause havoc with the management system.

Just curious as just found a couple on German Ebay thats all.

    Anyone ever come across them??

    They claim to give the following increases. Standard.125 PS, 280 NM; Mit Chip 148 PS und 330 NM;

That's a lot of dosh for what is essentially a tuning box!

    On/Off is nice,just in case it plays up a bit,which they do,particularly on V6 CDTI's!

Just saw your thread title Ben and was about to post the same - well the link to Rossiters/Steinmetz site as I remembered them dealing with this product.

Sounds interesting, if not somewhat pricey!

    Default Steinbauer Tuning Box 2.2DTi

Hi, Prob. be laughed off this forum as I have Frontera 2.2DTi (2003 VP44 Fuel pump engine type, needs hard wiring) but put on steinbauer tuning box 12k miles ago. Had tried 2 other main tuning box companies & no improvement. The Steinbauer from Rossiters worked straight out of box. 30-50 & 50-70mph both improved by 1 seconds (which is a lot for a frontera). No smoke, not sure if smoother, is slight flat spot but not great before without box. Very pleased overall, Guy at rossiters v.helpfull. Was more expensive than other though.

Hi all, I,ve got a Steinbauer in my 2.2dti sri and it really works. Haven't had it on the rolling road but the performance differance is dramatic. Had a dragon box before, but no big increase. Easier to wire in than others as only 3 wires, no idea how it works without a throttle wire but it does.

Great box with no engine management problems at all. The only issue I have have found is that it can be a little lumpy at low revs on cold mornings. All other times it's sweet.

Does anybody use fuel additives with tuning boxes to help protect the fuel pump?

Bought mine 2nd hand from a local guy who had it on ebay for £150.
Have a switch wired into the positive supply so I can turn it off when I want. Was thinking of buying a remote on/off of ebay, you can get them for about £15.

Nothing wrong with Frontera's. I've got a 99 2.2dti Ltd as well. Great wagon and pretty quick for a vehicle of this size and weight.

I've just picked up a 2nd hand Steinbauer p-bos for my Saab for £160 - same engine in my 9-5 2.2 TiD as the Vectra 2.2 DTI, so same P-Box. I was looking at it earlier on, yup, there are only 3 wires, and it's a mystery to me how it will work, but it allows for a "stealth" install at least .

I did the install at the weekend, it's a stealth install as there's only one wire that needs to be soldered onto a wire coming out of the injector pump - and that's it! The positive & ground are from the fuse box & underdash earthing point respectively.

The power increase is dramatic between 2000 & 3000rpm, and so far (500 miles in) no problems whatsoever with any warning lights or dodgy running. If anything cold starting seems easier - but... you need to remove the EGR in order to get to the injector pump, so I cleaned this out while I was at it.

    137,000 miles & running fantastic.

Good to hear to works for you Paddy. It seems to be a good box and in my car the performance differance is huge. As you say it is dramatic between 2000 - 3000rpm. I've had mine in now over a year with no issues what so ever and 105,000 miles on the clock.

If you want a little extra kick try the Millers Diesel Additive. You can get it in Halfords. It really does work. With the tuning box and the millers added to the diesel it can really go.
