    Default 2.2 timing chain

i have noticed recently that when i am driving at higher speeds (70-80mph) my engine is starting to sound a bit different. hard to describe as i am not very mechanical but a bit tappetty or rattly.

Its a non direct 2.2 petrol and has done 53000 miles (04 plate) and i wondered if it may be the timing chain and if i should get it changed soon?

    any ideas

or when they start to rattle..Had it serviced recently G?...try some fresh oil and see if that helps it, but it may well need the chains changing..

Seems a bit early at 53k though doesn't it? Would that engine of had the recall on the oil jets for the chain lube system?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

jets where changed size from 2001 on, so being 04 it would have the bigger jets..

chains can wear at what ever rate they like, so 50K isn't really that unusual..

Ok it was just a thought. Although, I still think that 50k if pretty bad when they are supposed to be for life. Belts last longer then that - sometimes

not been serviced properly for a wee while mark so that may be all it needs but i think i'll book it in for a chain change to be on the safe side. Safer to go to a main dealer do you think for that? My girlfriends brothers quite mechanically minded and fixes his own car so would be cheaper just the thought of the chain going would be naff
