Default Minor MOT Failure 3.2 V6 GSI

    Hi all,

Just bought my '02 GSI about 6 months ago and just been for first MOT.

Failed for offside front coil fractured (****** speed bumps) and front brake discs excessively pitted/worn (on inner side).

Took car to National tyres just to get a quick price check as it was on my way home and was told that they couldn't fit coil as it was a dealer part and that they'd need to strip brakes to see what 1 of 3 brake discs it needed.

I know the GSI had 2 sizes of disc (302/314mm), any idea what would be on '02 plate? Better buying from VX? Any idea of price? Probably fit them myself? (i'm an aircraft engineer so should be OK maybe..)

Do i really need to go to dealer to have coil replaced? Would i be cheaper buying 3rd party (if possible)?

Thanks for any help you can give

    Cheers

An 02 GSi will be 302mm so national tyres are talking crap as it's only possible to be two disks as you've stated and they wouldn't need to strip them, all they have to know is what year it is. Where did you go for the MOT mate?

IIRC you'd be better buying the disk and pad kit as it's cheaper than buying the disks themselves.

Went to a local garage (Bellfield service station) Just do MOTs no repairs. Got 10 days for a free re-test.

Been Quoted from Vx dealer - £127.50+Vat for pair of springs and £122.77 for discs (apparently they dont do disc/pad kits for GSI??) and £162+vat for fitting. So a bit more expensive than i thought it would be.

I don`t live in you contry mate...but I dont see why not change the spring by an independent garage...It will be better IMO and cheapear.
I will recomend to change at least the pair of springs...not only one BTW.

Did you go to Evans Hallshaw in Killie? I'll find the part No. for the disk and pad kid and go and slap it their face.

My dads gettin me the 314mm kit from there for an upgrade so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get the 302mm with the part No. As for fitting I can't comment get the old man to do all my stuff, but recall others saying it's pretty easy, will see if there's a how 2 for ya mate

There's one for pad replacement here, I'm sure one of the more mechanical minded guys will be able to advise on how to do it
