    Default Snowflakes and aquaplaning

I sailed down the M1 this morning and there were 3 seperate Vec C's that had seemed to aquaplane off the motorway and hit the central barrier doing a good job of killing each one! All had 3 nice snowflakes and 1 very bent 1!

Just wondered if this was common with the snowflake or just the fact that without a rudder at 100mph the Vectra wont steer in the wet??

So there will be a lot of snowflakes soon on Fleabay in sets of 3....

what is the best tyre for the 19's ive read mixed reports about the factory fit conti's, would nankang, pirrelli or dunlop be the better option.. i've seen on a few tyre sites that the Nankang tyres have 2 v shaped grooves to get the water out quicker... being in 4x4's for the past few years i've lost track of what are considered the best and worst tyres

I've always tended to use Goodyear NCT's but i read that there might be a problem with them, i've only done just under 500miles on the 19" contis it came with but if they are crap i'll change them..

I couldnt tell you Big Pete as I have only got the car on hire, but it sure as hell woke me up at 11:30pm when it did it!!!

You could be right as the contis dont have a V shape and that could be why they hit the water flat on like a ski!!! and then do what they want.

Also bear in mind the car is a 1.8 so theres not as much wait up front as our diesel's.

It'll be due to the combination of the wide, low profile tyres on a 19" wheel with the standard tyres not being so good at dealing with removing the water from the surface.

Nothing like a bit of aquaplaning to wake you up is there... it is horrible to think you've lost control for a while and at speed..

I'll have a look for a decent replacement and get shot of the conti's before i end up aquaplaning as well.

There are obviously other equally good tyres, but I can't praise the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 enough. Had them on my 17s and now on my 18s, after the crap Dunlops that came with the wheels - inspired no confidence in the wet at all. They really are a superb tyre. Not cheap, but excellent performance in dry and wet (some performance tyres are only good in the dry) and not noisy, as well as lasting a decent mileage.
