Is there even any point on fitting one on a diesel? Didn't think the turbos on them reached high enough temps to warrant fitting one?

save your money and spend it on something else because as duncan says its pointless on a diesel. i also think its pointless on a petrol, its just as easy to take it easy (i.e off boost)the last couple of mins of your journey if you have been giving it the beans but if really giving it the beans, i.e doing any track days etc i would let it idle for a min or two afterwards on a petrol turbo.

There's at least more of a reason to fit it on a petrol due to the much higher temps the turbo gets to on them.....

....but as you say you can just do that. That's exactly what I do after I've been out for a bit of a run and I know the turbo has been boosting a lot.

    Its a lazy mans tool!!!

You have too options turn the car off and wreck the turbo or sit there for a few mins on idle.

    Your choice!

The turbo get upto the same speeds in the Diesel but the diesel exhaust temp isn't as high which, is why the VX diesels don't have water cooled turbos. The turbo timer is to allow the turbo to spin down before shutting off the engine and the oil pressure with it. So there is a point, just as much point on diesels as on a petrols but it isn't worth the cash, when you can just wait 30 seconds after you stop. Plus you'll forever have people telling you that you've left your car running, or trying to nick it because it is still runing with nobody in it.
