Auto Gearbox Problem 2.2 SXI 52 plate

The gear box forgets that it has first, third and fourth gears. I mean it stayed in fifth gear when stationary and when I put it into tiptronic mode would only find second and fifth. I pulled aside and switched the engine off, waited 20 seconds and started up again, only to find I had all 5 gears again. It has done this a couple more times since, always when I have been travelling for some distance. It it an electrical problem?

yep, get the gearbox's selector switch looked at by an auto trans expert.. it sounds like the internal contacts.. the gearbox records fault codes that they can read

I had the same problem with my 04, 2.2 TDI Direct Design. What had happened is the seal on the coolant system had split and coolant fluid had got in to the auto gear box. After some battleing with VX i got a new gear box, but because the warrenty on my car had run out by eight months i got not warrenty with the new box. First of all though they replaced the speed sencors (they are two, one of is under the battery).
I hope the problem is not as serious as this.. GOOD LUCK

yep, ive read that you can run this car on Biodiesel, is this correct?

a BIG NOPE...they do not like biofuel at all..in fact in your service book it specifically states that biofuel in any concentration shouldn't be used..

It's just not compatible with the CDTi common rail engines..
