    Default Autobox VIN numbers

Hello mates! My first post here in forum

Ill put my fingers behind this one - will get it on thursday:

2002/may 2,2 engine, autobox - leather, Siemens NAV, xenon - practically all there is to be - only no electrical seats + 18" Irmscher alloys and slightly lowered suspension

Now - I have carefully studied about the diseases of Vectra C - around this forum (GREAT forum btw!)

and have a question - I saw mentioned in a thread - that there should be a range of VIN codes - where the notorious autobox problem occurs - and is under some sort of factory/manufacturer warranty... Could'nt find the thread anyhow...

Could someone point me in a right direction?

My previous car was this: http://www.carrating.org/car.php?6378
    plates were 007MEN

    Hiya Gsiest....

all i can tell you is that all cars are liable to the gearbox problems up till 2006..but if you contact an Opel agent, they should be able to tell you if the car has been modified to protect against the problems..

    Sliver vec looks stunning mate....

Yea....well, cause the car is from Germany - and our two countries do not have the same maintainace/service history database.... (mercedes, for example has practically a worldwide service history)

I allready went to my local stealers cave today - they dont see a thing -regarding previous service history in germany

what I noticed when checking the car on saturday:

    1. coolant fluid was clean and tidy - no signs of mayonnaise (what does'nt mean, that the box is fine - it can be flushed clean in germany for sales purposes) thats why i'm explorig about the VIN etc.

    2. there was some sort of loose movement in the passanger side streering system - standing on the spot and moving the steeringwheel - gave me a (dont know the exact word - in estonian its - KOLKS ) suspicious sound/rattle on the right side front wheel - could i be umm.. pardon my technical french - inner steering rod or smth like that? are the steering racks strong on Vec. C?

    3. I could not engage the cruise control - seemed like a mechanical failure of the on/off switch - or could it be the breaking sensor in case of autobox?

    4. one of the Xenon/HID bulbs vas "pinkish" - does anybody know - what type of bulb is in the original Opel/vauxhal solutionn - D2S or something else?

    5. passanger side front electrical window switch was "tired" - window went down perfectly - when switching to go up - it needed continuous trying

anyhow - I come frome land of OPEL (sing it as Men at Work - I come From a Land Down Under - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT7uZf7lew&rel=nofollow) - (ASTRA mk2, MK3, mk4, vectra B, Omega 3000 etc.) - - so im familiar with getting my hands dirty

And finally - broke up from my girlfriend recently
I NEED (can afford) A HOBBY NOW!

LOL. well i can tell you the inner joints are known to fail on the steering racks..as are the outer joints..you'll have to take the wheel off to see which joint it is that has too much movement and clunks.....

if you want to look at the condition of the trans fluid, remove the little green dipstick on the lower front of the gearbox ( you'll need a 12mm socket )..

cruise control can be either the clutch switch or the brake switch at fault..the clutch switch return spring failing is well known...see if lifting the pedals one at a time while trying to turn on cruise will help....

on the power window..it's normally dirty contacts inside the switch.. if you are careful you can take it apart and clean the contacts..

can the inner joint be changed separately? On some BMW steering racks for example - its not...

if you want to look at the condition of the trans fluid, remove the little green dipstick on the lower front of the gearbox ( you'll need a 12mm socket )..
    That I'll do!

its automatic transmisson - so I'll try lifting ONE (brake) pedal

on the power window..it's normally dirty contacts inside the switch.. if you are careful you can take it apart and clean the contacts..
i'm notorious for my carefulness - every time, as a child, when my mother bought me a MC cassette player -I CAREFULLY opened it - to see how its REALLY working. Mom had to bring me a newone soon - cause i coul'nt put it back together carefully

once more - thanks for great advice Gsi3.2!

    no problems....

the inner joints are replaceable...Opel will sell you a kit to do it.....it's not too dear here in the UK, so hopefully it won't be that expensive in Estonia

    good news....

dont know exactly yet about the prices

these murderers/(s)dealers quoted me a D2S xenon bulb today - approx. 100 GBP - when I am selling them for 20 pounds a piece by myself and a whole aftermarket kit costs a 100 pounds or less....

The famous TC switch was quoted approx 400 EEK - 15 pounds. (You have it for how many?)

and they also did not see the SRI air intake (9177099 £6.60 retail) on their computer...

    - to the battle!
