Thumbs up The Drinkies' trip to York

Chris and I treated ourselves to a couple of days off work, and decided on a little jaunt to the lovely city of York (off to a good start immediately with the amazing bargain Travel Lodge room for £29!!!

We started at the National Railway Museum (guess whose idea that was, then?!!? )

    Giant American monstrosity!!!

Inside one of the Royal carriages.......

I couldn't keep Chris off the trains..........

We then went off to the gorgeous Minster

and hauled ourselves up 275 steps in the narrowest staircase I have ever seen!!

to enjoy this view across the city

We also visited the Jorvik Viking centre - probably the smelliest place in the world, but some very clever effects (although one handy hint is NEVER go at the same time as a party of small school children are rampaging through the exhibition.)

Finally, we had a wander round the city, and admired the rather swollen River Ouse - you have to pity the folks living down by the river!!!!!

Cracking few days, definitely going again as soon as possible!! (all tickets for the attractions we visited are valid for 12 months!!!)

So that's where they hide Mallard these days, looks good, you should do the Manchester Science and Industry one, there's a shed full of trains there as well, travelodge is gr8 innit Lou, you can get it even lower in some places, £26 a night in the brand new Trafford Park one.

Glad you're having a good time on walkabout.

My wife dragged me to York last year for the day. I thought it's just York. But i really enjoyed it. Went around the Minster and some other small museum. Can't remember the name now. But we both enjoyed the whole day. Really peaceful place.
She wants to go back for the weekend.
Edit: It was the Yorvic centre.

Looks like the Fat Controller standing on that train. LOL

Did you not have a look at the Yorvic centre ?,well worth a look the artifacts they have makes you wonder how much we have progressed, when you see the jewellery and other items they made.
Took my missus to see the "trains" she was not impressed.

I love York, been a little while since I've been there - been even longer since I went to the railway museum!

Looks like you had a good day - don't fancy living near the river though!!

the last time i went to the railway museum, i was still at school, did you manage to get down The Shambles, theres some great shops for finding out your family coat of arms and histories of surnames etc, and was there a nutter in the town square trying to get out of a straight jacket!!!! we go to york a couple of times a year and akways seem to catch the same acts. also theres a really nice guy who draws caricatures of people, hes really good and well worth a sit down with. this is my daughter
