I've said for a long time that if I could get over 200bhp without it being smoky, I'd stop tuning it. Now I'm there, I don't want to.
Still, I've reached a point where I am struggling to find more things I can do. I've modified the engine bay to the point that Vx might not even recognize it as one of there engines and the transmission needs to be protected directly by the driver! So what more can I do now?
My thoughs fall to two fronts, the first being the mass air flow sensor; the unit in the 1.9 is much smaller than that of the 3ltr so I will look into the possibility of a straight swap.
My other though is of the remap again. Having squeezed 195bhp from the engine with no more smoke than any other remap I have seen, let alone a tuning box, I'm starting to think about making the driving a little easier. While I wouldn't want to drop the power, may look at feathering in the torque more gradually which may mean a reduction there. This would mean that traction problems would be reduced and I wouldn't have to worry about the dual mass fly wheel when accelerating.
Is it all worth my time though?
I very much enjoy the time I spend on my car but I feel that I've reach the point now that I should just be happy with what I have done and save the money for an Insignia.
Maybe I'm having a Spoons moment?
I'll probably have a VXR8 next week.
