Default What's the best thing for cleaning well stuck on road grime?

I'm not one for regular cleaning as my car is a bit of a work horse, but today I gave it it's first wash since November and I gave up after doing half the car as the dirt was stuck on like road tar.

Most of it shifted with a bit of elbow grease, but I'm a bit lazy plus I couldn't really get well into the nooks & crannys.

I remember using some kind of road tarremover some years ago for getting rid of the greasy stuff, but wondered if anyone could recommend a big tub of something for me to clean the car with.

If you use a jetwash, how about getting a foam lance for it, and snowfoaming the car first?..

spray it on, leave it to lift the dirt gently, then jetwash off...

I always give mine a pre-wash with Snow foam in my Gilour gun, give it a good rinse, then hand wash it, the Pre-wash soaks into the dirt and it comes off a lot easier. Daft as it may sound, but if the car has agood coat of wax on it the dirt doesn,t seem to stick too much.

Thanks guys. I have a foam spray hose attachment that I should use & probably will start to use again now.

The original query came about when I started to wash the car & it was still dirty and I thought this was caused by me leaving it on for a couple of months and thought that it may have been a mixture or road tar & general dirt picked up while driving as I know that tar is especially difficult to remove without prope cleaning leaning fluid?

i use meguiars all purpose cleaner diluted 4:1 and spray it on through a garden sprayer, it loosens up the dirt nicely.

You can get an all purpose cleaner (apc) from Aldi for a few pounds. A few guys on detailing world use it (including myself) and it gets good reviews.Spray it on and leave it to soak for a few mins then rinse off.
