    Default Stealth Motoring

Thinking this morning our car is something I've wanted for a while a stealth car - or what used to be termed a 'Q' car - a car that is understated but underlying is a beast not to be messed with, oir just had power that was beyond its appearance. I like the understated look.

Thinking further I recalled some of my favourite Q Cars of the past, I never owned them but wished I did. Anyone else think of any understated monsters?

    Lancia Thema 8.32 -

3.0-litre 205bhp ‘quattrovalvole’ engine from the Ferrari 308!!

    Diahatsu Charade 1.0 GTTi

A shoebox shouldnt have this much power

    VW Vento VR6

It just looks heavy and cumbersome - but isnt - no spoilers or hint of speed

    Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth

The Q car that wasnt so 'q' as everyone eventually realised these cars flew

    Lexus LS400

Just looked like a run of the mill big euroblob - but those in the know knew the engine was a gem.

I'm sure there are more but I'll let others voice some of their faves.

    My favorite 'Q ' car..

My cavalier V6...It only had 3 discreet little badges and plastic wheeltrims. Apart from that you had no way of knowing that it flew..I put over 200K miles on that car and it always left me with a smile..
The ultimate in vauxhall street-sleepers..All go and no show.. We took it to germany and had and indicated 149mph out of it..It upset many a boy racer.. Then it went for this....

I Still miss the Cav thou..

I haven't got a pic - but the Blue standard looking Corsa that's always leaving all in it's wake at Santa Pod. Now that's a proper Q car!!!

How about the Montego Turbo, hugely underrated car, I remember one of the magazines having a shootout between a standard Mg Montego and a Sapphire Cosworth, the MG beat the cosworth in every area, acceleration, top speed, handling and braking !!!

It wasn't bad to drive, just had lots of electrical problems with it. Changed it for a Nova 1.3 sr, which cut out every time you pressed the clutch. Both these cars were nearly new.

    The joys of 1980s motoring.
