Default Funny thing happened tonight on the way home !! Not Ha Ha Funny !!

1.9 Cdti Vectra Estate 54 Plate.

Got in the car Turned on the ignition & the Spanner through the car icon illuminated, Thought Hmm , Started the car the icon dissapeared !!

Drove the car to the Supermarket turned the car off & then the ignition back to position 2 Icon still there.

Came back to car started it again & it was there prior to the engine starting , Once started it was not illuminated.

Drove to my friendly Garage & could smell a very hot almost rubbery smell, The car was also consuming 0.9 Miles Gall on the trip computer. Plugged the diagnostics in & no Dtc's (Fault codes stored). He cleared the Icon display & i drove away, It did not come back Got home & the car was still using 0.9 Gal/Mile on the trip & still smelt very hot especially around the Center Cat/Dpf. Held the Car at 2500 Rpm, Quite a bit of Smoke (Never normally see any) Went for a further drive (Few more miles) Stopped & the consumption was at the usual 0.1. SO ??

I have V recently had the Recall on the Dpf & had the controller software updated !!

So was the car doing a Dpf Regeneration & that is what the Icon was telling me ( New SOftware Version) If i had of left it , (Not cleared the Display) WOuld it of not been displayed again after the regeneration had completed !!

    ANybody else had this ??

    Thanks

    Dean

When i had my DPF software updated and the regeneration done. It was smokeing like hell. But the smoke was not from the engine/exhaust is was from the paint burning off the new silensor's i'd had fitted. And what a smell. It just seams your's is going through another regen. Nothing to worry about. The mpg i'm not sure about.

Mpg should of read 0.9 Gal/Hour during what i think was the regen & 0.1 Gal/Hr what is normally displayed at tick over..

What confused me was the Spanner & car icon illuminating as the handbook says the Glow Plug icon illuminates during regen !! Having never seen this, Perhaps the V latest Dpf software does illuminate the Spanner icon, WHo knows

I remember the VX guy telling me that the light will show up twice and then on the third time the Regen will start. He told me to give it a good boot up the motorway once you see the light come on for the first time. For some reason i can not remember why now.

Well, 12000 miles in, and still no physical sign of a regen taking place on my Siggy!

You will probebly not notice it when driveing along.

The VX guy said to me that the last regen was something like 220 miles ago when he Tech 2 on the car. I never knew a thing

Funny that, Because the Bloke who i spoke to at the Vauxhall garage hadn't got a bl00dy clue & could not tell me if any warnings/lights would illuminate or not when the regen was about to happen !!!

When you do manage to find a good garage they are worth a mint ..
