    Default Back again

You may have noticed I haven't been on the forum that much recently.

My father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer about five/six weeks ago and took a turn for the worse a couple of weeks ago so I've been back up in the NE since then.

He died 30th Nov and the funeral was yesterday, so I've travelled back down today by myself as I need to catch up on a whole load of stuff! Jane (my wife) stayed up in the NE with her Mum given the circumstances.

Been catching up on the site this evening so will be getting stuck back into things again.

Will be back up in the NE in a week or so for Christmas so if anyone fancies meeting up?

Thanks guys - and sorry to hear of your similar loss David. The blessing for him was that at least he didn't suffer. He didn't start any of the chemo/radio therapy (which he would have hated) and when he died, he went very peacefully indeed - with the immediate family around him.

When he was admitted to hospital (Intensive Care) for the second time, he had had another fit (they think the cancer had also gone to the brain) so he was actually unconscious and never woke from it. So he never suffered at all from the initial diagnosis to the end - which, given the outlook, was really the best that could have happened.

Until his second fit, we fully expected to have him at least for Christmas. He was actually at home when this happened, after being discharged a week or so earlier as there was no reason for him to be in hospital - he just needed to build his strength up at home. So that's the hardest bit for everyone, as I'm sure it was for you - to have it all happen so close to Christmas.

My deepest sympathies. I don't know why it always happens at this time of year or whether this time of year highlights it more. Went through the same cancer thing myself a few years ago with my Grandfather dying. A week before Xmas really hurts everybody and you always have Xmas to remind you of your families loss. It alwasy reminds me to try and look after my family & friends better over Xmas and beyond.

I know, I'm glad we didn't see him suffer at all - sorry to hear that you went through that. 61 is too young to lose your Dad. In our case, 57 is far too young to bury your husband/Dad/father-in-law - didn't think we'd be doing that for a good number of years to come.
