Tuning the DTi isn't easy, or cheap..and the gains aren't fantastic either...best described as 'good' rather than ' oh my god'...

if you want a tuning box, then £300 will get you a VP44 box and around an extra 15-20hp..or if you can find somewhere that can talk to your ECU ( not all 2.2 ecu's can be mapped) then EDS agents should be able to remap it for you...REGAL have remapped at least one members 2.2dti..

is the tuning box a D.I.Y fit or a job for a specialist? whats the standard bhp on the 2.2 is it 150? if so the box would take it up to a possible 170?

    cheers

the DTi isn't anywhere near 150BHP...i beleive it's 120 but will be corrected no doubt....the 2 litre DTi only makes 100BHP, so there's no way the 2.2 makes 150..

if you are good with a soldering iron then you can fit the box yourself as they are hard wired in..not plugged in.

Is it the fact that its not common rail that makes the options less for this engine?

Looks like the bhp is about 123bhp:

yes..it's the older pump technology, running lower injector pressures...

Tuning boxes work by fooling the car into over pressurising the fuel to the injectors..it's easier to get bigger increases on common rails than it is to get them on the pumps...also, the VP44 pump isn't the strongest, so it's wise to not give it too hard a time..
