Default Advice for first time "mature" skier

    Right then,
At the age of 48, I've decided it's about time I gave skiing a try. We're booked to go to Austria on the 1st March. We got a good deal on a learn-to-ski package, so I just thought I'd ask the Vectra-C folks for any advise for a first timer, especially one that's not exactly a spring chicken. I'm reasonably fit and strong, but any advice regarding pre-ski exercises would also be welcome!

    Phil.

<edit> Yes, I know it should be "advice". I can spell, but I can't type!

you need to build your legs up.
it's a lot harder than it looks.

the first few days will be easy but you'll pay for it in sore muscles.
    after that it's plain sailing.

    Re: lifts
don't lean back too much, just let it go taught and pull you, or you'll end up on your a55.

speaking of which, lots of padding. lol

do you have a dry slope or indoor slope near you?
give it a go as it gives you a flavour of what you're going for and gives you a headstart.

    shopping list:
    salopets
    goggles
    gloves
    hat
    scarf
    thick socks
    warm trousers/joggers/jeans
    warm jumper

and finally, believe it or not. a good high factor suntan lotion.

piece of advice #1 - keep an eye on where the ski lift is at all times, it tends to sneak up on you....or so i'm told, i've never been skiing myself.

    Ta.
I've spent quite a large lump of cash at the Mountain Warehouse sale, to get most of my kit. I've gone for breathable stuff. my legs are pretty well built up, as I do quite a lot of treadmill and bike work at the gym.

i used to work at the snow dome in tamworth and i used to work at the dry ski slope in swadlincote (john nike ski and snowboard centre) if u can get a few lessons on a dry slope then when u come to the snow ull find it bit easier.
