    Default secondary key

    Hello to all,

I'm new here and also new to Opel Vectra owners community.
I got my car from Germany and it doesnt have a second key. I have the Car Pass with all car codes and I found from where to get a secondary key
    http://www.remotekey.co.uk/cars/vauxhall/key-cutting/
but I have to go with it to a Opel dealer and make it like my original one. After that I know I have to program the new key so that car would recognize it.
I know this can be done using a program and a laptop directly on the car.
Does anybody had this problem before and also has the required program ? Or did you just went to the Opel dealer and have it make the original key copy and also program it to work on the car ?

    Thanks.

I have the programming tool to do it, but it's more than just a program on a disc...it's an entire tool..costs £500GBP..

basically, after the key is cut to be the same as your locks on the car, you need to get the key's transponder programmed to the cars ECU's...using a dealer level tool will enable you to do that..So, unless you find someone in romania with an aftermarket tool, it will be an opel dealer only..

I forgot to mention, the car model is Vectra C, 2003 year model, and it doesn't have an alarm system yet. I am aware that in this case I just need my second key cut to be similar to the one I have and then I need to place it into ignition switch and press some buttons.
Are you aware of this technique ? Is this something real ?

I got this from another Vauxhall forum :

"Assuming it has same immobiliser chip in it then to get the remote working you put key in ignition, turn on ignition and press and hold the open door button. Door should lock and unlock and the keys programmed.
I dont know if the door needs to be open or not."

    Thanks again.

That technique is only to resynchronise an already programmed key back to the car i.e. if you've changed the battery in the key. You still have to have a new key initially programmed to the car, using an appropriate device (like what GSi3.2 referred to above).

I don't know what the prices are like in Romania for a dealer to supply and program a key, but here in the UK it's what most people would do. A cut key from a dealer in the UK is the same from any dealer, or should be, as it's a set price. The programming is where dealers will vary in price - and why some members have had wildly varying prices - but to give you an idea the whole new key supplied and programmed to the car costs around £65, so around €90, in the UK.

It will probably be easier to just get an Opel dealer to do the same for you (get the key and program it) I would think.

    Hello Duncan,

Thanks for the informations. I might obtain a new key, I've found this website
    http://www.lockandkeyworld.co.uk/vauxhall.htm
and if I gave to them the car codes, they could make me a new key.
I'm trying to find the service prices in UK cause I know here in Romania the prices are higher, the dealers assume that having an expensive car means that you have a big account in the bank also.
Going to a local Opel dealer it's my last resort.
    Thanks again.
