Default Headlight aim WAYYYYY too low?

Changed my headlamp bulbs and did the "Lawson mod" to improve the beam. Car went in yesterday for a service and MOT and I made sure that I reset the height setting to the "original" 2 setting so the beams wouldnt fail the MOT.

When I got the car back I noticed that the height switch was back at the zero position but the car had passed the MOT.

Would they have adjusted the headlight aim as part of the service or was the original headlight aim just really cr4p? I wasnt charged for headlight resetting and I thought that when they perform an MOT they were not allowed to adjust anything. Makes me think that even adjusting the aim up by two notches doesnt make it a MOT fail.

I once took me old Vectra B in for an MOT and they adjusted my headlights without me knowing. The reason i found out was they were pointing to the tops of the trees! Took it back twice before they got it anywhere near!

    Default Headlamps and MOT

Had an interesting experience with a Honda Civic quite a few years ago. Dropped it in for an MOT which it failed on headlamp aim.

Got the normal "No problem sir, we can do it for £xx" I declined and took the car home. When I opened the bonnet there were fresh screwdriver marks in the dust on and around the adjusting screws.

    Naughty naughty naughty................

No names mentioned on the forum, but the bunch of cowboys involved have never had any business from me, my family, friends or colleagues since. They are still going.

The moral is, you have a right to observe the MOT test, make sure you do as it should restrict the possibilities of little s?#!s pulling this sort of stunt.

One reason why i've always sat and waited for mine to be done. It's only half a hour. The place i go to if they find a fault , they tell you there and then and show you
