Flat battery

My battery was flat yesterday, presumably due to hardly using my car for the last few weeks over Christmas. Totally dead, could just hear the soloniod when turning the ignition. Managed to get it going again with jump leads luckliy. Was just wondering:

1) Is it normal for it to discharge that quickly when barely using it? I did notice the dash lights had been dimming slightly when starting it recently.

2) I noticed the battery performance indicator (see through dot) is black. Would it have been green originally? Have been reading up and looks like this suggests it is knackered. Having a cover over it I never noticed if it was ever green or not...

3) Maybe I imagined it but I'm sure there was an eggy smell (no jokes!) when I have started it cold since then. Is that likely to be something to worry about is it just my imagination?

My car is an 07 Sri Nav Xp 2.2 Direct with 10,000 miles. Wouldn't expect an almost new car to have battery problems like this...

eggy smell could be the battery sulphating...

Dealer time, to get the chargeing system and the battery examined..

Well the eggy smell seems to have gone now, will see what its like in the morning but it was definately there last night and I think a little this morning. Think I will get it checked out at the dealer then thanks.
