    Default 1.8 TDi Focus Q

Anybody know anything about this engine in a 1999 focus ghia 1.8tdi. Not the TDCI.
Is it any good, cheap to service and how often etc what sort of mpg to expect ( mainly around town and short runs).
Just for the wife to run about in and keeps her out of my signum and damaging it. LOL

good cars, should give around 45-50mpg and the engines are tough...bits not too dear either ( for a change) and providing the cambelt is done before you buy it ( involved job) then it sounds a good deal

My Mum's 51 plate has just come back from a sheared cambelt...

    £2600 later!!(Cylinder head, and allsorts!)

But it is great on fuel though...

We used the old 1.8 TD Focus as beat cars. They were pretty good, quick enough, nice to drive and as has been said 40-45mpg but cambelts are absolutely crucial.

Had a 2000, 1.8TDDI for 3 years. Great wee car, engine was sound, did all servicing myself and gave no problems. Only got 420-50 mile/tank (veccy is better!) but all in all no real probs. (except for the badger the wife encountered at 60mph and ripped the bumper off, can't really blame the car for that though!!)

The TDDi is pretty much a similar engine to the old DTi - same VP44 pump. Would have one of those before the modern TDCis.

How much are you looking at "about" to do the belt at small garage. Good for me to know when bargaining the price. I hope it still their in a couple of weeks when i get back.

I'd try to get the selling garage to do it as part of the deal or you'd want £250 out of the screen price...

88K is around the time it'll need changing, so if they haven't got 100% proof it's been done, bargain away..

Thanks very much Mark. Great to know that. I hope the motor is still their in a couple of weeks. That will also help in the bargaining bit along with the cambelt.
    Cheers
