Hi,
took girlfriends car (Signum Design 1.9 CDTI 150 75 k mileage) into dealership yesterday as steering was all over the shop (just been given it as a company car). Because the wheel was moving about even at slow speeds I put it down to worn ball joints. The steering wheel shake was very bad! I would use the word violent.
I dismissed the idea of wheels being unbalanced because it was happening at all speeds whereas previous expereince has shown it tends to happen at higher speeds 65-75mph with balancing and never this bad.
Also checked the rear suspension trailing arms (while on the ground pulled the top of the wheel in and out) which had about 1cm of movement in.
Garage have phoned up and said:
Rear trailing arms are fine and the wheels need balancing.
Will road check it before I take is back but how could I have been so wrong about the steering? And the rear trailing arms, did I check them right? Would you consider they were worn with 1 cm movement?
Comments please.................... before I go to collect the car tonight
Thanks
