Default Removing the cat on a diesel, especially for Ditchp

Was speaking to the grease monkey at work today and he is adamant that the cat will play no part in the emission test for you oil burners. He said the sensor they shove in the exhaust has a light on one end and sensor the other end and it basically sees how thick the smoke is. The cat apparently removes the chemicals that are measured from a petrol engine not a diesel one, so basically get all those cats off and add 10% more power!!!

Correcto!!.. all the diesel MOT emmisions test standard is currently, is a smoke test.. which the cat does not affect...

We've been running decatted diesels in the family for years now, so don't worry.. they still pass....

    Ohhhhh yessss

And what's worse, the DPF is part and parcel of the cat, so you can't just remove it. So us DPF blessed owners will just have to make do

All 3.0 diesels have them, all 1.9 autos and estates, and all signums.

    Think that's it....

How difficult is it to remove the cat? I have a 2.2dti and the idea of 10% more power appeals to me

Is this something my local Kwikfit could do if I offered the guy some beer money?

Probably not - you have to replace the cat with a plain section of pipe, and i doubt that's something they'd keep in at KwikFit.

I am getting my 2.2DTi de-catt'd, hopefully at the Group Buy meet in February at MIJ...

Cant wait to see if it increases performance or not.
