Default Serviced by vx at 58,861

    Hi all.

My 1.8 Club had just over 60k on the clock when I bought it in March.

I have just had it serviced since the MOT was due and thought i'd get it all done together - having now got 67,468 on the clock.

I always get my motors serviced at a local mechanics since he is very well recommended and trustworthy - saving me going to the stealers directly.

There was no problem with the MOT or service - but when I went to collect my car he asked me if I had any idea if the timing belt had even been changed, as it should have been done at 60k and there was no mention of it on the service log.

Well the last service stamp in the book was at 58k by a vauxhall dealer and since the service interval is 20k, am wondering if the dealer is likely to have done it at this point.

Is there any way of finding out if the belt has ever been replaced as I dont want to pay for the job if it's already been done, but also dont want to leave it too long if it hasn't been done!!

Apologies if this has been brought up before, I have searched but I dont like hijacking other peoples threads.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers

To be safe it's a good idea to change the belt at 40k miles, VX stated 80k miles at one time but there were a lot of tensioner/roller failures at that mileage.

If the car hasn't come with a receipt to say it's been done, all you can really do is have it done for piece of mind or perhaps go to a VX dealer and see if they can check on their system to see if there is a record of it. Not all of the dealers are friendly enough to do that though.

It will cost about £200 for a cam belt change from the stealer's on a 1.8, I had mine done 6 months ago

Yep call the dealer who serviced it and ask. Its upto the owner when to do the belt. In the interest of them saving money, I doubt it was done. A quick call might help

Ok thanks, so looks like it wont have been done so best to call the dealers who serviced it - see if I can get them to talk.

The guy who serviced my car this time gave me a rough quote of £140 to get the timing belt done - does that sound right for the job?

    Cheers

it's a fair price.. the belt and tensioners kit will cost him around £80 and it'll take him about an hour and a half.. so not too bad a price really..
